In February, I had the honor of capturing the sweetest surprise proposal in Portland, Oregon for Lucas and Rosa, who were visiting from San Francisco. One of the places they planned to visit during their trip was The Grotto in Portland, and Lucas had reached out ahead of time to plan a surprise proposal for Rosa. From there, we got to work planning everything out.
When Lucas first booked with me, the first thing he asked was, “How should we plan the proposal?” which is honestly such a great question, especially when you’re coming from another state and haven’t seen the area in person before. So I got to researching and planning.
I started looking into the best spots around The Grotto where he could propose, and honestly this may be a little silly, but I ended up drawing stick figures in different spots that made sense and sending them over to him so he could visualize everything.
Every small detail that went into planning their proposal was thought through with intention so everything could run as smoothly as possible. Of course, things don’t always go exactly according to plan, but having a plan helps calm the nerves and gives you a clear idea of what to do in the moment.
Then the day finally came, and Lucas got down on one knee to propose to Rosa… and she said yes.

Faith photographed our wedding and did an INCREDIBLE job. She really captured all the love and intimacy in the room in a way that felt so authentic and natural to us. Faith is so kind and helped us keep our bridal party on schedule so we didn’t miss a single shot from our list, all while making sure that our focus stayed on enjoying the day together. Some of my favorites are from our first look/private vows.
